Concert Bands

Fall Upperclassmen Symphonic Winds

In the fall semester when marching obligations are complete upperclassmen perform in 2 separate concert bands (Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band). These two groups also combine to form a Symphonic Winds group that performs music together in the Winter concert. This band performs music at the Grade 4-5 level.

Fall 9th Grade Concert Band

This ensemble, scheduled during the 4th period, is designed to help freshmen build a strong foundation in both marching and concert band skills. In the first few weeks, students focus on marching fundamentals, stand tunes, and pre-game music. For the remainder of the fall semester, they transition to concert repertoire at Levels III-IV, culminating in at least one performance.

In the spring semester, the 9th Grade Concert Band combines with the Symphonic Band, performing Level IV-V pieces at MPA and other regional festivals.

Fall 9th Grade Concert Band

In the spring semester the fall Symphonic Band merges with the 9th Grade Concert Band to create a larger Symphonic Band that performs at the Music Performance Assessment (MPA) and the Spring Concert. This band performs music in Grades III-V and is very successful at MPA each year. This is a mixed ensemble of all grades who have successfully taken Fall Symphonic Winds or Fall Concert Band.

Wind Symphony

The Wind Symphony is the most advanced auditioned concert ensemble, consisting primarily of juniors and seniors. This group has a distinguished performance history including appearances at regional festivals, the NCMEA Conference, and the National Band and Orchestra Festival at Carnegie Hall. The Wind Symphony has earned over 53 Superior Ratings in Grade VI at District MPA and presents three major home concerts annually, along with additional local performances. Space in this ensemble is limited and is based on audition and instrumentation needs. Mastery of the 11-12th Grade all state scales, ability to learn audition requirements and audition for the Western District All District Band, and mastery of instrument fundamentals are necessary to be successful in this ensembles. Private lessons are encouraged but not required. Audition results for the Western District and All State Bands are used to seat this ensemble.

Percussion space in this ensemble is limited to 8 members and will be auditioned each semester.
