Marching Cougars Football Band

The Marching Cougar Football Band is a group of 150-180 members made up of all 9-12 band students and performs at home football games with the AHS Dance Team and Cheerleaders. They will also perform at 1-2 away games and the Asheville Holiday Parade. This ensemble focuses on musical fundamentals through pre-game music (national anthem and fight song), stands tunes during the games, learns the basics of marching fundamentals. This group will perform music at halftime. Music for this ensemble is learned during the 1st 4 weeks of the fall semester in fall Marching/Symphonic, Marching/ Concert, and Marching/Wind Symphony classes. While this ensemble is required for all members of the band program, the commitment for 9th graders in particular is limited to class days, home football games, and select away games to preserve the after school time of our students to be used for athletics, clubs, and other interest.

Upperclassmen Halftime Marching Band

Within the Marching Cougar Football Band, a select group of about 110 students (grades 10-12) participate in the halftime group. These students, enrolled in Marching/Symphonic and Marching/Wind Symphony classes learn the majority of their drill moves at band camp and rehearse intensively during the first 3-4 weeks of the fall semester to learn a show they perform at home football games.

Occasionally, 9th graders who qualify for Wind Symphony or fill specific instrumentation needs are invited to join this group, but it primarily consists of upperclassmen.
