Why fundraise?

As you have likely noticed we rarely fundraise outside of Tourists games, Band Fees, and the 5K. We are not a program that does much of that. We are very respectful of your time and the fact that no one actually wants to buy wrapping paper, chocolate, or do car washes. However, last year (for the first time) all student activities were charged mileage for bus trips and this resulted in over $9,000 in bus bills for the band which were given to us in June. This wiped the school account out and the boosters had to step in and send almost $4,000 to AHS to cover the deficit. Many student groups have struggled to cover this cost. Athletics are charging $50 per student to cover this as are many other student groups, but we just do NOT want to raise band fees to do that or charge extra fees if we can avoid it. The band fees supply what we need and have not been raised in 12+ years. However, these transportation costs are eating into all other activities. If you would like to donate a fuel fee to assist it gets paid for out of this AHS Band Account. We are also going to use the Holiday Wreath proceeds for that account if you would like to sell some of those instead. We did that sale about 3 years ago and it was very popular. They are nice wreaths and smell great. See that info below.

Holiday Wreath Sale! Order now

Orders close November 15th

Online orders are open until Nov. 15th for holiday wreaths. These are beautiful wreaths and we are excited to partner with this vendor again for the band. Please share with local friends and family. The wreaths will be delivered to AHS and can be picked up at school. Exact delivery date is to be determined after orders close.

UNC Charlotte Wind Ensemble Concert

Nov 5th, 7 PM

We are very happy to host the UNC Charlotte Wind Ensemble Concert at AHS! This will be a great concert and we really need our kids to fill the audience. If you enjoy band music please attend with your children. We are the host for this evening concert for anyone in BCS/ACS who wants to attend and we hope there's a good crowd. We will offer extra credit or a replacement for any things missed for students who attend.

Potential Playoff Games

Nov 13th and 20th

Our Team is very good. #2 in the state. It is likely we may have a home playoff game Nov. 13th and potentially even November 20th. However, we just never know until the brackets are done and all regular season games have been played!. We will participate but will streamline and have kids meet at 6PM to dress and line up. We will serve pizza to those who request it at 5:30PM. Otherwise students are free on those days to either stay after school if they need to or just show up at 6. If the team wins there will be games until they lose or go to the championship. It's been a long time since we were this good so this is uncharted territory. Be looking for updates!

Asheville Holiday Parade

Nov 21st, 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM

BIGGEST PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR! Adjust calendars now. While many musicians consider parades a special form of musical torture, and it is certainly very low on our list of musical priorities, it is the largest performance of the year and we treat it as such. The band must look, sound, and be the best seen that day. We are supported by ACS and the community, so we must give back and do it to the very best of our ability when asked to give back. This is one of those times.

Jazz Concert

Dec 10th, 6:30 PM

Come out and support the AHS Jazz Bands for their Winter Concert. Same procedures as concert band apply. Meet 30 minutes before. Concert dress is the same for Jazz as it is for concert band.

5K Brass, Drumline, and Saxophones

Dec 12th, 8:00 AM

There are many ways to contribute to the 5K, but one of the expectations of the oldest brass and sax players is to very quickly sight read holiday tunes and form ensembles to play before the 5K. We will discuss and get this organized a few weeks before. Drumline will also perform. Dress is holiday sweaters.

Winter Concert

Dec 14th, 6:30 PM

Winter concert for the 3 Concert Bands will be on Monday night. There is no ASYO or Community Band on this date in our facility which is how we arrive at this Monday night concert each year. Bands will warm-up at 6PM for the 6:30 Concert. Concert Band on stage, Symphony Band in the bandroom, and Wind Symphony in the Chorus Room.
